The Senate passed the Refugee Crisis in Iraq Act!  This is the crucial first step in addressing the needs of millions of Iraqi refugees.  Your voice made a difference and we thank you for your help!

The United States is finally beginning to act on its responsibility to protect the more than 2 million Iraqis who have already fled their country.

Iraqis in Syria

UNHCR announced this week that Syria is now requiring Iraqis to obtain visas to enter its territory, essentially closing off the last refuge for Iraqis fleeing the violence and sectarian persecution in their homeland.

Please speak out for these refugees, and urge Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to work with Syria, Jordan, and other countries to provide a safe haven for Iraq's refugees.

More than two million refugees have fled Iraq to surrounding countries, but with the borders of the major host countries closed, there is now no escape for those fleeing persecution.  While the United States has offered to resettle 7,000 this year, that means the overwhelming majority of Iraqi refugees will depend on the protection of countries like Syria, Jordan and Lebanon.

Without that protection, what choice do they have?  Where else can they go?
